Digital Communications Specialist

About the Position

If you are a talented and creative communications professional looking to join a diverse group of highly skilled, intelligent people who are passionate about student mobility, we are looking for a Digital Communications Specialist.

Reporting to the Manager of Communications, the incumbent combines creative communication skills and technical knowledge to devise, implement, and manage ONCAT’s online marketing, communication and graphic design efforts for internal and external audiences. This includes planning social media content, engaging with ONCAT’s social media audiences by maintaining and expanding its online presence, reporting on analytics, and handling general digital marketing and communication activities. The incumbent cultivates and manages positive communications internally and externally with students, colleges, universities, media and the community.

Responsibilities

Digital Marketing, Social Media and Website Management

• Implements ONCAT’s print and digital strategy to promote both the corporate and student facing websites (oncat.ca and ONTransfer.ca).

• Assists with the development and content creation (e.g. images, video, text) of the corporate and student websites, e-newsletter, and all social media channels (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Social media ads, landing pages, blog) to create positive and ‘buzz worthy’ impact.

• Coordinates the day-to-day activities of ONCAT’s social media channels including monitoring online conversations; recommends and launches new social media accounts as appropriate.

• Creates and maintains a daily and monthly editorial calendar(s) for social media activity for ONCAT’s Team.

• Researches, identifies and recommends best practices in digital marketing trends.

• Manages advertising and marketing of ONCAT/ONTransfer.ca activities.

  • Monitors effective benchmarks (best practices) for measuring the impact of digital marketing campaigns.
  • Advises in the development & execution of digital ads, including the management of Google analytics.
  • Advises on media buying opportunities, purchases advertisements and researches new opportunities to increase awareness of ONTransfer.ca.

• Works with ONCAT staff leads to ensure ONCAT’s corporate website is updated and content refreshed on a regular basis.

Communications and Graphic Design

• Assists in the development and implementation of ONCAT’s communications plans for the roll-out of various initiatives.

• Creates, writes and designs print collateral including brochures, annual reports, infographics and corporate communications materials. Ensures consistency and quality in ONCAT’s products and communication materials.

• Analyzes and synthesizes insights from multiple sources of data, research, projects, and initiatives to identify and create communications products that align with ONCAT’s priorities.

• Develops and maintains the communications calendar to ensure timely execution of ONCAT’s communication plan and programs.

• Provides in-house graphic design and oversight of ONCAT’s visual identity.

• Designs banners for the website, creates graphics and images for social media, and designs PowerPoint templates and presentations.

• Manages external vendors to coordinate production and printing.

 

Essential Qualifications and Experiences

• Undergraduate degree or advanced diploma, preferably in Marketing or Communications.

• 3-5 years of relevant work experience in communications.

• Experience managing stakeholder relations, communication/media plans, projects and initiatives.

• Experience working in a non-profit (provincial or national) or broader public sector organization, or postsecondary educational institution.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including:

  • Copy writing (including web content)
  • Proofreading and editing
  • Copy editing
  • Ability to clearly communicate information effectively and persuasively

• Excellent knowledge of marketing and graphic design principles, including experience using social media tools to engage with stakeholders combined with an ability to market/publish web content effectively.

• Strong project and time management skills.

• Excellent attention to detail.

• Ability to establish, collaborate and maintain relationships with a diverse range of people and organizations (e.g. vendors, internal experts or teams, stakeholders, students).

• Demonstrated ability to work independently and work collaboratively in a team environment.

• High proficiency with MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite.

• Strong understanding of content managements systems

• Fluency in French is an asset.
