Applicant Requirements: None. Anyone can apply to have eligibility assessed. Exceptions are previous passed courses. Failed courses have to be assessed before twelve months of failing the class.

How do students apply? To start the process students are instructed to contact the Pathway Officer.

Types of PLAR offered: Course specific.

Credit award limits: To be awarded a Canadore College credential you must have completed at least 25% of the program credits through Canadore College.

Assessment methods: Various methods are used alone, or in combination, to assess learning. Assessment methods include challenge exams, portfolios, interviews, assignments and essays, presentations, and performance assessments.

Steps in PLAR process: Self-assessment and PLAR approval. Register for PLAR and pay PLAR fee ($115.00). Meet with assessor (may be through email); complete assigned coursework. PLAR requires academic work such as a portfolio presentation, challenge exam, practical demonstration or other assessment method.

Credit recognition on transcripts: PLAR is graded according to the grading scheme for the standard course.
