ONCAT Appoints Yvette Munro as New Executive Director

The Board of Directors of the Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer (ONCAT) is pleased to announce the appointment of Yvette Munro as the organization’s new Executive Director. Ms Munro will start her position on January 15, 2018.

Ms Munro brings to ONCAT more than two decades of postsecondary, government, and not-for-profit experience, with a focus on community engagement, services for children and youth, and access to postsecondary education.

“The board was impressed with Yvette’s strong sense of leadership, her passion for education and access, her commitment to working with students, and her proven experience in developing relationships and engaging partners. We are confident that her knowledge and vision will help to guide this next evolution of ONCAT,” says Dr. Rhonda Lenton, ONCAT Board Co-Chair, and President and Vice-Chancellor of York University.

Over the last five years, Ms Munro was the Director of Academic Partnerships and Planning within the Office of the Vice Provost Academic at York University where she was responsible for pan-institutional planning, project management, and government relations in the areas of credit transfer, student mobility, and access to postsecondary education. Prior to that, she held various senior positions at the university, including Course Director and Manager, Community Relations & Project Lead, President’s Task Force on Community Engagement. Ms Munro has also held contract teaching positions at Humber, Sheridan, and Ryerson.

Additionally, Ms. Munro was a member of the Ontario Public Service, where she headed the design and delivery of various provincial funding programs, led inter-ministerial consultations as part of the Community Use of Schools Policy, and worked closely with field offices in northern and rural communities.

Added Cheryl Jensen, ONCAT Board Co-Chair, and President & CEO of Algonquin College, “Ms Munro possesses a strong background in serving diverse communities, having participated on the board of several youth-serving charitable organizations, and is currently the universities Co-Chair of the Council of Educators Toronto, a network of civic and educational partners focused on improving access to postsecondary education. This understanding of diverse stakeholders and communities is an asset to ONCAT’s continued success.

For almost two years, Lia has provided leadership and stability to the organization and has been instrumental in continuing to advance ONCAT’s agenda in collaboration with all the colleges and universities across the province. Her passion and dedication for student mobility has had a positive influence on Ontario’s higher education system.”

Established in 2011, the Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer (ONCAT) was created to enhance academic pathways and reduce barriers for students looking to transfer among Ontario's 45 publicly funded colleges and universities. As a member organization, it works with those institutions to develop transfer credit policies and practices to ease student mobility.
