Credit award limits: You are allowed to gain up to 75% of the credits required for a certificate or diploma program through prior learning. You must complete the remaining 25% of the program requirements by enrolling in classes at Niagara College.

Student support provided: Student Services is responsible for providing customer service and administration of challenge exams and the Registrar’s Office is responsible for the assessment and collection of fees and the finalization of the transcript. The Academic School is responsible for evaluation and approval of the final grade.

Withdrawing from process: Once a challenge exam has been written, the fee cannot be refunded. The student will be given the opportunity to accept/refuse the challenge exam grade. If accepted, the student will sign the grade notification form, the Dean/Chair will approve, and it will be forwarded to the Registrar’s Office for processing.

Credit recognition on transcripts: Credit earned through the portfolio assessment process will be signified by a “CR” on the transcript once applicant becomes a student.  For credit earned through Challenge Exams the grade will then be added to the student’s transcript and will be included in the final GPA.
