Applicant Requirements: You must be 19 years of age or older, or a high school graduate with prior learning that can be demonstrated, and is related to your chosen program at SLC.

Fees: Approximately $122.28 for each course application request­ing PLAR credit, generally higher for work place­ment/clinical experience.

Types of PLAR offered: Course specific.

Credit award limits: It is possible to achieve a maximum of 75% of a college program through the PLAR process. The number of credits you earn depends upon the nature and extent of your learning and program type. Therefore, a minimum of 25% of the total program courses must be achieved under St. Lawrence College faculty's direct supervision. Please be aware that some programs have other residency restrictions related to licensing and credentials.

Assessment methods: Prior learning can be demonstrated through a challenge or portfolio process. 

Steps in PLAR process: Download the PLAR Student Checklist and complete the first seven items. Have your Program Coordinator email pathways@sl.on.ca once they have reviewed and approved PLAR eligibility. Complete the online PLAR application form, then print and sign it. Scan and email the completed form to pathways@sl.on.ca. The PLAR Advisor will check your application, sign it if approved, and return it to you. You can then pay the fees per course. Return the form with your receipt to the PLAR Advisor. The PLAR Advisor will inform you of your assessor.

Credit recognition on transcripts: If you have successfully challenged the course, the grade will be recorded on your transcript.
